Asamankese court convicts 24-Years old man To 14 Years Imprisonment For Stealing Mobile Phone
The Asamankese Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams, has handed down a 14-year prison sentence to a 24-year-old man from Nyanoa for stealing a mobile phone worth Gh¢900.00 from a student of Nyanoa Community Day Senior High School.
After a thorough trial, Ansah Philip, the accused, pleaded guilty to stealing, in violation of section 124(1) of Act 29/60. He appealed to the court for leniency, citing his role as a key servant and only male child of his parents.
However, the prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Owusu, presented evidence that Philip Ansah had been convicted twice before for similar offenses in 2017 and 2020 by the Asamankese Magistrate Court. The Judge, therefore, sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour, citing the law’s provision for no mercy for ex-convicts.
According to Inspector Samuel Owusu, the complainant, Pobi Martha, is a student of Kwaobaah-Nyanoa Senior High School and resides in Nyanoa town. The accused, Philip Ansah, and his accomplice, Emmanuel Eshun, are labourers and residents of Nyanoa.
On June 21, 2023, at 1:30 a.m., the complainant woke up to discover the theft of her iPhone 7 plus mobile phone, valued at Gh¢900.00, from her room. She reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused. The phone was retrieved, and after investigation, both were charged and brought before the court.
