$50 million spent on the National Cathedral ‘hole’ could have purchased 5000 dialysis machines for Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, each costing $10,000.
Meanwhile, the renal dialysis unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is facing the threat of shutdown as the facility struggles to secure funds for purchasing necessary consumables needed for service delivery.
According to Prof. Vincent Boiman, the Head of the Unit, the renal dialysis unit is incurring a debt of GH₵380 with each dialysis session.
Prof. Boiman emphasizes that the current situation is significantly impacting the unit’s ability to provide quality service and raises concerns about the potential closure of the facility.
