Protesters were funded by a political party – Cheddar.

Independent candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, may be facing the end of his political career after a video surfaced in which he claimed that the recent demonstration organized by the Democracy Hub was funded by a political party.

Since launching his campaign, Cheddar has consistently emphasized his commitment to the youth, expressing his desire to be elected to empower the younger generation.

However, his remarks regarding the detention of the 39 protesters have sparked a wave of skepticism on social media, with many questioning whether he truly stands by his claims of caring for the youth.

In the video, Cheddar stressed that he unequivocally opposes violence and denounces the clashes that erupted between the police and protesters at last weekend’s demonstration. His comments have led to a mixed response, raising concerns about his sincerity in advocating for the rights and well-being of young people.

He went on to clarify that while the protesters are entitled to exercise their right to demonstrate, he is acutely aware that the leaders of the organizing group are backed by a political party. This acknowledgment raises important questions about the motivations behind the demonstration and the influence of partisan interests on the grassroots movement.

Cheddar asserted that the demonstration was not genuinely aimed at halting galamsey, as the participants purported, but instead served as a vehicle for advancing the agenda of a political party. This suggests that the true motivations of the protesters may be intertwined with political interests rather than a sincere commitment to environmental concerns.

The Ghanaian youth have expressed profound discontent with both the government and the judiciary following the decision to remand 39 protesters into prison and police custody after their recent demonstration. This action has sparked widespread frustration and has ignited calls for accountability and reform within the political and legal systems.
