Offinso College of Education proudly welcomed 320 student teachers through its matriculation ceremony.

On March 5, 2024, Offinso College of Education joyfully welcomed and matriculated 320 students into its esteemed institution. The freshers faces of the students beamed with happiness as they embarked on their journey at the college.

Offinso College of Education, initially known as Offinso Training College, was founded in February 1955 by the Gold Coast District of the Methodist Church, Ghana. The primary objective of the institution was to provide training for women catechists within the church.

The College’s roots can be traced back to Mr. Andrews Krakye Denteh, a former Tutor at Wesley College in Kumasi, who originated from Asamankama in Offinso.

The College began with an initial enrollment of thirty-two (32) female students embarking on the Two-Year Teacher’s Certificate “B” program. It was under the leadership of Principal Miss Dorothy M. Turnbull, alongside three other female Tutors as the only instructional staff. They were supported by one main Clerk, who also served as the Bursar. Over time, the two-year certificate “B” program evolved into a four-year certificate “A” program. By 1971, the student population had expanded significantly, growing from 60 to 300 students.

In September 1971, the College underwent a transformation, becoming a coeducational institution with the enrollment of 70 first-year male students. Additionally, seventy-three male students from the former Aduman Training College were transferred to join the student body. The College further expanded in 1974 when the two-year post-secondary certificate “A” program was introduced.

This program was eventually replaced by a three-year post-secondary program, which in turn has evolved into the current three-year diploma in basic education since September 2005.

Starting from the 2018/2019 academic year, the Diploma in Basic Education program has been phased out to make way for the introduction of a four-year degree program.
