Bawumia named Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.
Media General’s presidential correspondent, Nana Adua, has confirmed that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister and lawmaker for Manhyia South, as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
According to Nana Adua, Dr. Bawumia met with President Akufo-Addo last night to formally inform him of his decision. The NPP’s council of elders will be notified by the end of the week, and an official announcement is expected soon.
This development comes on the heels of a survey conducted by the National Investigation Bureau, which revealed that Dr. Opoku Prempeh was the preferred running mate among NPP delegates, securing 76.2% of the votes from 5,116 executives polled nationwide.
This strategic choice is expected to bolster the NPP’s campaign for the upcoming elections.”
